Program Division Internship


Internship Program Objective and Strategies: The program objective is to provide interns an introductory knowledge of the function and fundamentals of programs through observation and hands-on experience focusing on research, historic exhibits, archival collections, and outreach programs.  The internship program meets this objective through a number of strategies. Interns will 1) study the role and function of programs within the setting of a research library in a public library system; 2) develop organizational skills related to creating and implementing public programs; 3) plan, organize, and coordinate protocol for significant events at the library; 4) establish and maintain contacts and guests lists for all events; 5) attend functions at the library to welcome guests and provide guidance; 6) create, organize and maintain AARL informational packets and event/program flyers, and, 7) contribute to outreach programs.


Qualifications: Interns must be enrolled in an accredited college and/or university, have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, be reliable, have good communication, writing and organizational skills, and be able to lift materials weighing up to 20 pounds.



Internship Hours: Schedules may vary depending on academic internship program guidelines and the need for assistance at AARL Programs.  Schedules are negotiated between the coordinator and interns and adhere to AARL’s hours of operation.


Library Hours of Operation: 


Monday  12:00 p.m. to  6:00 p.m.
Tuesday  10:00 a.m. to  6:00 p.m.
Wednesday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Friday 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday  10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday  2:00 p.m. to  6:00 p.m
