What is it?

Guidelines for ILL service

Place an interlibrary loan request at any AFPL location or online from one of the following links:

What is it?
If a book or magazine or journal article you are seeking is not owned by the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, we can often get it for you from another library through Interlibrary Loan. Before you make an inter-library loan request please read guidelines!

You can place a request by email or in person at any AFPL location. Make sure to specify the branch location where you want to pick up the material. When the item arrives, you will be notified.

This service is often free, but sometimes there is a charge for materials, especially for photocopied material, or for items held by only a few libraries.

Guidelines for Interlibrary Loan

  1. You must have an Atlanta-Fulton Public Library card to request interlibrary loans.
  2. Your card must be updated and unblocked (no lost materials or excessive fines). To check your account, log in to iBistro and go to "My account"
  3. Please check library catalog to be sure that material is not owned by any AFPL library. Any material currently owned by AFPL should be placed on hold, not requested through interlibrary loan. Holds should be placed in the library catalog. Interlibrary Loan staff will not place holds.
  4. We will process 5-7 requests per patron at one time. This includes requests that have already been submitted, but are not yet completed. Thank you for your cooperation.
  5. Fill out a separate form for each book and/or photocopied article desired.
  6. Please fill out all required fields, indicated by *.
  7. Due dates for interlibrary loan materials are set by the lending library. To renew interlibrary loan materials please call the Interlibrary Loan Office at 404-730-1937.
  8. Interlibrary loan materials are borrowed from other libraries. Please return them on time! If these materials are not returned on time, we may not be able to borrow them again.
