Director of the Library



The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System's Director, John F. Szabo, began his tenure on April 4, 2005.

Prior to his arrival in Atlanta, Mr. Szabo served as Director of the Clearwater Public Library System in Florida, and previously served as Director of the Palm Harbor Public Library in Florida and as Director of the Robinson Public Library District in Illinois. He holds a Masters in Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunication and Film from the University of Alabama. Mr. Szabo has over 15 years experience as a library director.

Mr. Szabo currently serves as a member of the Board of Regents' Public Library Advisory Committee, the Public Arts Advisory Committee of the Fulton County Arts Council, and the Board of Trustees of the Cherokee Garden Library/Center for the Study of Southern Garden History. Previously he has served as President of the Florida Library Association, President of the Board of Directors of the Tampa Bay Library Consortium, and President of the Gulfcoast Library Organization. In 1994, he was a participant in Rotary International's Group Study Exchange program in Sicily and the Aeolian Islands.

Mr. Szabo is the 14th Director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System since 1897.
