About the Southeast Branch| Southeast Atlanta Library is a 15,000-square foot library located at 1463 Pryor Road. This library is part of Phase I of the Library Building Program. In November 2008, Fulton County voters overwhelmingly passed the Library Bond Referendum. The plan will greatly enhance all of the county’s libraries with 8 new libraries and 2 expanded libraries. Phase II includes the renovation of the 24 remaining libraries.
Public Art Project Artist: Tristan Al-Haddad, Formations Studio
Project Title: Immaterial
Immaterial is a 16 ft x 8 ft horizontal wall installation located between the Toddler Area and the Community Meeting Room.
The piece symbolically represents library’s evolving role in the complex global network of knowledge, communication and collaboration in the digital age – transforming from a “house of knowledge” to a “web of thought”.
The lattice textual pattern is a map representing the locations of each library in the Atlanta Fulton Public Library System, and is comprised of 144 unique literary quotes. Sections of acrylic represent neighborhoods served by each library.
The artwork is assembled of four layers of acrylic material: an opaque mirror; a light-emitting green layer; a clear depth layer; and a two-way mirror, combining to create infinity threshold effect.
