Library System Prepares to Re-open Kirkwood Library After Extensive  Renovation Work

The Fulton County Library System has announced the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Kirkwood Library, located at 11 Kirkwood Road NE, Atlanta 30317, which will take place on Friday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. The celebration will include a program in the library’s new community meeting room, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new library, as well as light refreshments for guests.

The Kirkwood Library is the 5th library in Phase II of the Library Building Program to re-open, since construction began in late summer of 2018. The Design/Build team of Hogan Construction, mcmillan|pazdan|smith architecture and Chasm Architecture provided all design, engineering and construction services for the newly renovated library.  Heery/Russell, a Joint Venture was the program management team.  Phase II of the Library Building Program consists of 23 library branch renovations and the renovation of the Central Library and Administration HQ for the Library System.

The improvements to the Kirkwood Library will allow for patrons and residents of the surrounding neighborhood and beyond to continue their use of the library as a community gathering space,  educational centerpiece and technology and information hub.  In addition to the various library services, the Library has partnered with the Fulton County Department of Arts and Culture to install public art throughout the library, as part of Fulton County’s commitment to supporting the arts in every County facility.  For more information about the County’s Public Art Program, visit www.fultonarts.org.

Residents will have the opportunity to test out all the new technology and services, along with guided tours by library volunteers, during the grand re-opening celebration.
