Roswell Library Receives AGC Build Georgia Award

Fulton County Roswell Library Receives Prestigious AGC Build Georgia Award
The library takes home first place in the Design/Build Under $5 million category.

ATLANTA – Fulton County is proud to announce that the Roswell Library has been selected as the 2020 first place winner in its divisional category for exceptional design as part of the Annual Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Build Georgia Award. The newly renovated library competed in the Design/Build Under $5 million category. Announcement of the award represents a celebration of the library’s standout construction.

“We are extremely proud to receive this award,” said Gayle Hunter Holloman, Executive Director, Fulton County Library System. “Creating this space was truly a team effort which brought together the most experienced designers, contractors, architects, and program managers; all of whom were committed to providing the best library for the community.”

The Roswell Library, located in District 2, re-opened its doors on January 3, 2020, following an extensive renovation. Following completion of construction, patrons now have access to updated classrooms and meeting rooms, a new entrance to Norcross Street, and upgraded technology.

“The goal during the renovation process was to develop a space where families could gather and be comfortable,” said Liz Hausmann, Fulton County District 1 Commissioner. “The new Roswell Library front entrance enhances walkable connectivity to vibrant downtown Roswell. The design team on this project played an integral role in creating an accessible and innovative space that will be enjoyed by the community for generations to come."

"This is quite an honor, as we have been committed to improving our libraries countywide to ensure they are top-notch and a model for others across the country," said Bob Ellis, Fulton County District 2 Commissioner. "We're especially proud of the Roswell Library design that perfectly fits in with the historic downtown Roswell district and is an example of our team's hard work and dedication to preserve the past while advancing our libraries to the next state-of-the-art level."
Construction to the Roswell Library is part of the Fulton County Library System’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP) which saw the new construction and expansion of 10 libraries and the renovation of 23 library branches as well as the downtown Central Library/System Headquarters. Al Collins, Administrator of Bond Construction under the Department of Real Estate and Asset Management, has lead the Library’s construction project since it began and has been instrumental in the success of the program.
“Al and the entire team have worked strategically to incorporate unique aspects that tie each renovation to the communities they serve,” said Ellis Kirby, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Infrastructure. This award clearly recognizes the success in their efforts for the Roswell Library.”

“I am very pleased to receive notification about the Design/Build Award for Roswell Library; however, I am not surprised,” said Al Collins. “The architects, McMillian Pazden Smith, put a lot of thought into the design of the library, especially the façade redesign requested by Commissioner Hausmann. The combined design efforts of the architect and the craftsmanship of the contractor, Hogan Construction, greatly improved the usability of the building as well as its curbside appeal.”

The Roswell Library renovation team also included:

- Hogan Construction Group, Contractor
- McMillian Pazdan Smith and Chasm Architecture
- Heery/Russell, Program Manager
